Player Analysis
August 16, 2024
Zach Rizzuto

The Contested Catch God of the 2024 wide receiver class, Coleman faces the tall task of replacing Stefon Diggs after Buffalo used a second round pick to select him out of Florida State. Unfortunately for Coleman and his fantasy managers, the bar is going to be where Stefon Diggs left it - the former Bill turned Texan went four straight seasons with 150+ targets, 100+ receptions, 1100+ yards, and 8+ touchdowns since joining the team in 2020. Coleman profiles as an entirely different type of receiver than Diggs, which will make holding him in his rookie season against Diggs' prime years in Buffalo an unfair exercise; of course, the comparisons will come anyway. But it's not all bad news for Coleman after landing in Buffalo, as he's now attached to QB Josh Allen for the foreseeable future and profiles as the closest thing the Bills have to a No. 1 receiver. There are also 160 targets vacated by Diggs' departure for Coleman to pick up, though Curtis Samuel, Khalil Shakir, and Dalton Kincaid will have a claim to earn their fair share of the redistributed pie. It's worth noting that Samuel notched the highest targets per route run (0.23) of any Commanders receiver in 2023, including Terry McLaurin. Kincaid will have one of the biggest claims to be leading the team in target share after garnering 91 targets as a rookie, while RB James Cook remains a threat in the passing game after amassing 54 targets of his own in 2023. Given less-than-stellar peripherals in yards (1.87) and first downs (0.87) per route run, Coleman may be a TD-dependent option in 2024 - and with plenty of competition around him, he could struggle to make an impact this season, especially out of the gate.
