Player Analysis
August 27, 2024
Zach Rizzuto
Harris enjoyed roughly a month as the presumptive RB1 in Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman's run-heavy scheme before LA drafted Omarion Hampton and woke Najee truthers from their fever dream. Last year in Pittsburgh, Najee was actually relatively efficient: he forced as many missed tackles as Jahmyr Gibbs, had the 8th-highest rate of missed tackles forced among 23 RBs with 200+ carries, and the 12th-highest yards after contact in that same group of ball carriers. That's not bad - certainly not bad enough to just write him off in a Chargers backfield under OC Greg Roman, who split carries nearly down the middle in just about the same situation six years ago with the Ravens in 2019. Hampton may be younger and the more intriguing option of the two, but with that additional hype comes a higher price - as the RB15 off the board, Hampton is twice as expensive as Harris (RB36). History suggests that Harris will receive a perfectly reasonable workload in a split backfield with Roman calling the plays, making his price tag much more palatable and Harris a low-risk, solid reward investment as a potential fantasy RB2 at the price of a borderline RB3.
