Player Analysis
August 16, 2024
Faraz Siddiqi

Jacobs wasn't good last year, and he's being drafted assuming that he's going to be the Packers workhorse. I would be in on this if he didn't show potential signs of declines with his extreme inefficiencies. Marshawn Lloyd is young and is a very good prospect, and at the very least I think he challenges him for a role. We already know Packers HC Matt LaFleur likes his 1-2 punches, and now he has a huge upgrade over AJ Dillon in Marshawn Lloyd. Jacobs has also had a few injuries in camp, soft tissue in particular, which isn't a great sign for him at this point. He's still being drafted as a RB1 for fantasy this season - so there is some perceived value here. This is a good Packers offense, and the lead back on this offense is pretty attractive - so there is still a world where he is very good for fantasy, but there are a few more things to consider. He's also approaching the 1500 yard carry mark and will likely hit that this season at which we tend to see a sharp decline for RBs. We might've already seen it - he had an amazing 2022 season - career best, and then last year he was simply... Terrible. Among 23 RBs with 200+ carries last year, he was dead last in yards/carry, 2nd to last in yards after contact/attempt, and 3rd to last in missed tackles forced/attempt. His -0.37 rushing yards over expectation/attempt was also one of the worst in the league. He might be a little expensive for my taste, as I think Jacobs will be part of a shared backfield at the very best.
