Player Analysis

Zach Rizzuto
Schultz re-upped with the Texans on a three-year, $36M deal this past offseason, but with Houston bringing in Stefon Diggs to a WR room that already featured Nico Collins and Tank Dell, there's a very real possibility that he's relegated to the role of the No. 4 target in 2024. Schultz's first year in H-town yielded nearly identical production to his final year in Dallas in 2022, with his 59-635-5 line in 2023 mirroring his 57-577-5 line the year prior. HIs overall TE10 finish in PPR formats was his second-highest fantasy finish of his career, with the first coming back in 2021 as the overall TE3 in Dallas. The concern for Schultz's potential downtick in utilization in 2024 is real, but on an offense that ranked 5th in passing yards and 12th in pass attempts last year (and that could reasonably improve those numbers in Stroud's second season as starter), Schultz might not need 100 targets to be a viable fantasy starter. His 1.65 yards per route run were solid and his 0.22 targets per route run ranked 13th at the position last year; but perhaps most importantly, Schultz has a track record of producing despite significant competition around him. Look no further than his aforementioned TE3 finish in 2021, when he finished as one of three Cowboys pass catchers to notch 100 or more targets while competing with Amari Cooper, Ceedee Lamb, and Michael Gallup. The Texans' new trio is likely more formidable than that Cowboys receiving corps, but some experience is better than no experience for a tight end who will be dealing with heavy competition for opportunity. Schultz will likely have a handful of games where he makes a mark in 2024 given that Houston's offense will likely rank among the league's best, but a projected lack of week-to-week consistency likely leaves him best treated as a boom/bust TE2.
