Player Analysis
August 16, 2024
Faraz Siddiqi
I think Warren has a clear path to breaking out this year - he was the RB22 in fantasy points/game last year, top-15 in both points/snap and points/touch, and I think he'll get more of both of those this year because of how efficient he was last year in the run and the receiving game. I mentioned this before too, but new Steelers OC and former Falcons OC Arthur Smith was not only a run-heavy play caller, but he was willing to take so much away from Bijan Robinson, I'm willing to bet that he's willing to take a lot away from Najee Harris as well, potentially even more. And the thing is, Warren is the better pass catching option - Bijan ran a route on 70% of dropbacks last year, 2nd behind CMC... he ranked 3rd in target share, 3rd behind CMC and Breece Hall, Warren was 5th... Warren ranked 4th in targets/route run last year too... Warren is the guy in that backfield who is the pass catching RB. You look at Russell Wilson last year, he ranked last in 1st read throw percentage (who would be George Pickens in this case on most plays) and ranked 1st in checkdown percentage, and given the fact that the Steelers really have one bonafide weapon and target earner in George Pickens, we could be seeing a lot of the same this year with those targets going to Warren. All Warren really needs is maybe 20 more catches, a little more work in the run game behind that improved offensive line, and a little more TD equity to be a fantasy RB1. By the way, this is two years in a row now with Warren being at the very top of the efficiency charts, and he's going into Year 3 at age 25 - the age apex for RBs.
