The signing is not as significant regarding Williams as it is as a gauge of Josh Jacobs’ status – which, evidently, is not looking any better than it did a few weeks ago.
The Raiders bringing in Williams indicates that Josh Jacobs could really hold out into the regular season, which means that another Raiders running back will be seeing a solid workload at least to start 2023. Zamir White appears to be the favorite to land that role, but Williams could challenge White along with Ameer Abdullah and Brandon Bolden to form a committee in the Las Vegas backfield.
Without Jacobs, the offense figures to be worse off than it would be with him in the lineup, and no RB on the Raiders’ roster currently would come close to being a 1:1 replacement to Jacobs if the season started today.
