Browns Sign Joe Flacco to 1-Year Deal

Updated: Jul 30

Not exactly the 40+ year old signal caller everyone has been waiting on to sign, but a notable one regardless given his familiarity with the Browns and his relatively high quality of play despite his age. The last time Flacco donned the brown and orange, he was serving up dimes to Amari Cooper and David Njoku en route to finishing as a fantasy QB1 in the stretch of games that he started in 2023. His new deal is only worth a few million, so his spot as a starting QB on the roster is hardly guaranteed – but given the underwhelming competition that exists Cleveland’s QB room today (Kenny Pickett and Deshaun Watson with one achilles tendon), Flacco could realistically draw a few starts if the Browns don’t add another player to the mix the rest of the offseason. That seems highly unlikely given how dire the QB situation is and an entire draft class of quarterbacks available in next week’s draft, but if Cleveland doesn’t come away with one of the top signal callers (Cam Ward, Sheduer Sanders, Jaxson Dart, or another high profile name like Jalen Milroe), Flacco could be in a legitimate competition for the QB1 job to open the 2025 season come training camp. He isn’t exactly Jameis Winston in terms of elevating the fantasy prospects of the receivers around him, but he’s proven he can sustain more than one fantasy relevant pass catcher despite being well past his prime.
